Mental Health Care Plans
Not sure how to help yourself?
Mental Health Care Plans are ideal for those with diagnosed mental disorders who would like to see allied mental health professionals. A mental health care plan is created by your usual doctor once a mental disorder is diagnosed, offering 10 medicare rebated consults or support group sessions per year with a social worker, psychologist or occupational therapist. 6 sessions are allocated initially then a following 4 sessions can be allocated after a review with your doctor.
Due to Medicare guidelines, A mental health care plan can only be created by a doctor who knows you and is aware of your circumstances and situation. Once this plan is created, 6 sessions can be used in the first 6 months then, following a review appointment with your doctor, another 4 sessions can be used in the following 6 months of the year. Reviews cannot be done in the first 6 months after the initial plan is created, following the 10 sessions, if required another mental health care plan can be created by your doctor however it must be a minimum of 12 months since your previous plan was created. These timelines session limits are specific to the patient, not the doctor. For more information click here.
